The Savage Model 64 series is an affordable semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle made by Savage Arms in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada. It operates on a simple blowback action. It is targeted towards beginning shooters, small game hunters, and budget minded plinking. It is one of the most popular plinkers in the United States due to high accuracy, being chambered in cheap, common, and readily available.22 long rifle, and the inexpensive price.[1] It is a popular plinking rifle and competes with such other notable rifles as the Ruger 10/22, the Remington 597, and the Marlin Model 60.

Variants

MODEL 64F The standard model, has black synthetic stock.[2]

MODEL 64F CAMO Model with Synthetic Realtree Hardwoods HD camo stock.[3]

MODEL 64G model with Monte Carlo style, walnut finished hardwood stock.[4]

MODEL 64FSS Has stainless finish and upgraded to fiber optic sights.[5]

MODEL 64BTV Has laminated thumbhole stock.[6]

The Model 64 Savage also has a full floating barrel, standard. This rifle is considered by many to be more accurate "out of the box" than the Ruger 10/22.

The advantage of the Ruger 10/22 is that there are MANY accessories available for it. It can become a rifle that is more accurate than the Savage by application of certain accessories such as barrel kits, mount kits, stocks, etc. The Savage Model 64 has few options available.

Bottom line, if you are not looking to "mall ninja up" your rifle, the Savage Model 64 is a fantastic value and a very nice shooting .22.
